Town Centre Regeneration

The New Swindon Company

The New Swindon Company’s mission is to facilitate the sustainable physical and economic regeneration of the town centre of Swindon. Building on a solid bedrock of a town that already enjoys the advantage of excellent rail and road networks and has a number of significant companies represented, the company is to co-ordinate a substantial development programme. The Company is key to implementing the strategy detailed in the Regional Stratety to deliver the vision through the regeneration of the town’s central area.

The Seven Zones Of New Swindon

Zones have been identified as regeneration areas across Swindon's town centre. Each will be redeveloped to provide a focus for investment such as the high quality accommodation planned for at The Exchange. A shortlist of developers is currently being considered for this centre which will also encompass a new bus terminus and hotel in a £300m investment.

Cultural Advancement

The Arena and The Promenade will create the town centre fit for a prosperous town with a diverse community with key elements being a new library, gallery, shops and town centre apartments all being constructed. There are great efforts being made to add to the cultural and entertainment attractions in the town centre. The new Central Library is a major £10m project that will provide the focal point for the regeneration of Swindon town centre. And there are also ambitions to create a new art gallery to house the highly regarded Swindon Civic collection which includes pieces by Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore, L S Lowry and Bomberg and is currently housed at the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.

North Star Urban Village

Elsewhere, North Star village will be a vibrant neighbourhood emerging right on the doorstep of the town centre with The Campus alongside providing a modern integrated setting for business and leisure.
